LOCATION: Colorado Springs, Colorado

 

COMPENSATION: $65,000 - $70,000

 

POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: 

 

The Senior Editor for Research & Analysis will coordinate closely with the department director to help manage outside studies and specialized market analysis, coordinate content provided by contributing writers, manage content budgets based on team inputs, will further support the team’s work by providing essential first edits to copy produced for The Space Report, and based on that content, will produce additional content for press releases, social media posts and executive summaries. The senior editor also will have experience in database management and producing analysis based on that data.

 

The Senior Editor for Research & Analysis will ensure high quality reports, papers, and studies on relevant and emerging topics across all sectors of the space industry, which includes online and printed content that adheres to AP style. They will coordinate closely with the department director to help manage studies and specialized market analysis; coordinate content provided by contributing writers; manage content budgets based on team inputs; support the team’s work by providing essential first edits to copy; and will produce additional content for press releases, social media posts and executive summaries.

 

This position is not eligible for remote work; candidate must expect to be based in Colorado Springs, CO.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with other members of the Research & Analysis team to plan, manage and edit content for The Space Report, using experience as a line editor to ensure copy adheres to AP style and maintains a stellar level of accuracy.
  • Coordinates/partners with the department director to plan and manage analysis and/or studies examining issues such as space workforce development and key market shifts in the industry.
  • Coordinates, schedules and provides first edits to articles provided by contributing writers.
  • Edit related graphics, coordinate media assets and help manage production needs for publications.
  • Will assist with developing new datasets and producing analysis from that data.
  • Will be a leading contributor in leveraging AI to enhance data analysis and related content.
  • Assist as directed with other Space Foundation events, including the annual Space Symposium.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

 

COMPETENCIES:

 

The following briefly describes knowledge, skills, abilities, and characteristics associated with this position, including any required experience, education, licensure, certification, or combination thereof:

 

  • BA/BS degree in journalism, communications, data science or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience as a content/line editor in a team environment with a background in building and maintaining content budgets.
  • Expertise in line editing and adherence to AP style.
  • Demonstrated experience in database management and producing analysis based on that data.
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate communications and market surveys.
  • Familiarity with the space industry is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively as a team member; ability to interact appropriately with management, professional and clerical staff and individuals outside the organization.

Individuals in this position will generally work indoors and will have a workspace designated solely for them. Necessary office furnishings, equipment, and supplies will be provided by the Foundation.  While performing this job's duties, the employee may periodically be required to work outdoors and would be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The employee may periodically be required to work in an offsite environment or at special events and may be asked to travel on Foundation business at the Foundation’s expense. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

JOB STATUS: 

 

  1. FLSA Classification: This position is exempt per guidelines of the Fair Labor Standards Act and, as such, an individual in this position is not eligible to receive overtime pay.  

 

  1. Full- or Part-Time: This position is full-time in nature. An individual in this position will regularly work a schedule of 40/40+ hours per week.

 

  1. Work Location: This position’s primary work site is the headquarters location in Colorado Springs, CO. The nature and responsibilities of this position are such that it is eligible for Space Foundation’s hybrid work policy. Space Foundation’s hybrid work policy is 3 days in office, with the option of being 2 days remote per week. **

 

  1. Regular Schedule: Usual business days are Monday through Friday, holidays excepted, and usual business hours are from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. in the time zone in which the position is located.
