GENERAL INFORMATION: MUST HAS ACTIVE SECURITY CLEARANCE!
Rocky Mountain Protective Service Inc. and the Department of Revenue Security & Preparedness department works to provide a safe and secure environment for Employee and visitors. As a Department of Revenue Security Officer, you will regularly interact and engage with staff and visitors as you patrol and monitor the Department of Revenue buildings, grounds and parking lots. Your duties will include but will not limited to patrol of the Department of Revenue and its buildings, assisting the Department of Revenue within a wide variety of situations, providing first response to Department of Revenue emergencies and disruptions, crowd and traffic control. You will be expected to maintain a high level of sensitivity to and respect of others and always maintain a high-level confidentiality.
This position is located in Colorado Springs, CO.
The work schedule for this position varies as staffing conditions require and includes a rotational on call/call back component. Schedule may vary due to events or emergencies. This position is classified as a critical position at the Department of Revenue, so you can be expected to work and/or remain at a work site in delayed start, early release, or closure situations. Work schedule is Monday - Friday and regularly includes schedule changes to work evening events. Occasionally requires working on scheduled days off, as needed.
The duties of this position include:
Patrolling and Call Responses
· Conduct security patrols of Department of Revenue buildings, grounds and parking lots on foot or by other means (i.e. patrol car, bicycle, etc.) and provide stationary security post duties as assigned, to be accessible to the Department of Revenue and to deter crime and disruptions. Physically inspect buildings and check doors, windows, entries and exits for safety.
· Respond to all calls for service directed by radio, telephone and/or supervisory and management personnel of the Security Department.
· Ensure Department Supervisors and Leadership are notified in a proper and timely manner of breaches of security occurring on Department of Revenue properties or of information received that may create a security risk for Department of Revenue properties such as trespassers and contact local law enforcement as appropriate.
· Perform safety escorts, on foot to and from vehicles and Department of Revenue facilities.
· Respond to alarms and communicate and assist fire and police departments.
· Respond to requests for information and direct customers to appropriate resources as needed.
Investigations and Reporting
· Provide initial response to emergencies and incidents on Department of Revenue campus and complete initial investigations to determine disposition.
· Conduct investigations of security matters on Department of Revenue Property.
· Write complete, accurate and timely reports to record Department of Revenue incidents and document investigations and maintains logs relating to activity on Department of Revenue.
· Work with law enforcement to preserve evidence in incidents that may be criminal in nature.
Enforcement
· Control the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus property.
· Enforce all Department of Revenue rules and regulations on Department of Revenue properties owned or leased as specified in Standard Operating Procedures.
· Challenge trespassers, loiterers, errant vehicle operators and all others who create a safety and security risk to students and staff and threaten the overall security and integrity of the physical assets and property of the Department of Revenue.
· Temporarily detain and restrain individuals when there is an incident that may be criminal in nature and present an immediate threat to the safety or security of students or staff by means of baton techniques, locks, grips or holds, or restraining devices until law enforcement arrives.
· Respond to and assist in resolving conflicts and confrontations on. Department of Revenue Properties.
· Assist with crowd control as needed.
· Issue campus parking tickets.
· Direct persons creating a disruption, safety or security risk, or those in unauthorized areas to leave Department of Revenue, escort them off premises, or call law enforcement.
· Issues trespass notifications to those who disregard directive to leave Department of Revenue Property using Department of Revenue approved template.
Emergency Responses
· Respond and manage all types of emergencies until the arrival of outside agencies, providing first as needed.
· Serve as initial responder when dealing with emergency situations such as tornados, floods, bomb threats, lock downs, etc., following proper procedures for lock down, lock out, evacuate, and shelter in place.
· Assist in evacuating staff and customers during emergencies.
· Ensure standard response protocol is current and accurate and update as needed.
· Immediately issue Timely Warnings and Emergency Notifications during emergencies as appropriate.
· Equipment Maintenance and Use
· Exercise proper care and maintenance of all Department of Revenue and Rocky Mountain Protective Service Inc owned or leased equipment including vehicles assigned to or utilized for duty.
· Maintain a high level of proficiency in the proper use of authorized protection tools (batons, hand cuffs, pepper spray, radio, etc.).
· Maintain in-depth knowledge and high-level proficiency with institution safety and security systems.
· Must maintain required certifications and required re-certifications in all applicable areas as determined by the Department of Revenue and state law.
Department of Revenue Security Authority
· Report murder/non-negligent manslaughter, negligent manslaughter, sex offenses (forcible and non-forcible), robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, arson, liquor law violations, drug violations and/or illegal weapons possession.
· Report hate (bias) related crimes for the following classifications: murder/non-negligent manslaughter, negligent manslaughter, sex offenses (forcible and non-forcible), robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson, larceny, vandalism, intimidation, and simple assault.
· Department of Revenue Security Authorities are obligated by law to report crimes that pose an ongoing threat to the community immediately to the Police Department.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Preferred Qualifications:
· A year or two of experience as a security guard in a role that required a high level of customer contact and service.
· Security experience in a museum or other cultural institution.
Necessary Special Requirements
· Must possess and maintain a valid State of Colorado Driver's License to operate Rocky Mountain Protective Service Inc. vehicles. Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check. Must be 21 years of age. This position requires the individual to exert up to 120 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs., of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. It also requires constant or frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and depth perception. You must be able to perform this level of physical exertion and essential functions in order to be considered for this position. This position will wear personal protection equipment and standardized uniforms.
· Must become certified in First Aid, CPR, and receive AED training, if hired.

· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

· Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees in the organizations.

· To check e-mail and perform other simple tasks.
Physical demands:
· While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk up for several hours a day and also spend a lot of time doing video surveillance.
· Must be able to observe what is taking place while on post.
· Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
Interpersonal Skills:
· Requires excellent interpersonal skills to interact with members of the public, guests to the Department of Revenue, staff, Board Members, and other individuals, at times in sensitive situations. Often serves as the first point of contact for people entering the facility.
